Some process shots of Leo from start to finish
I start my pieces by laying out shapes and color - it is a very messy process and probably one of the more frustrating points to get past
Once I have decided on placement I fill in some details to sort of remind myself of the direction I would like the piece to go - For instance I know I want that orange near her eyes and hair in the piece so I am setting the tone of it
I do not add textures to the end - however I will layer them in or throw them on so I can see, again, what I am trying to accomplish - is it going to make sense - etc etc
At this point I am focusing on the background and foreground meshing - so I am adding in details and colors between both sections for cohesiveness
After much refining I can get down to my favorite part which are the details. I like to get really close and make them as best as I can. I start on the foreground and move to the background - At this point in the painting I am feeling that the background is a little too cool and shady for a Leo so I end up changing it out (This is why Layers are so important) Which you will see in the final product
Viola! A refined background with a bit of extra flare.
I put textures back in, added some pop and details
I also experimented with a High Pass Filter which is why she looks so sharp. It works out well for printing.
This isn't quite tutorial level - but I would like to share the process and levels of what a painting goes through. Sometimes I feel people do not understand the full process of a digital painting - and that much like a real one it is done in layers, over time, fueled by the magic of the soul and heart.
Thank you for sharing your time with me today. <3
